This month marks the launch of the Ilford & Redbridge Business Awards, which Edwards Duthie Shamash is proud to be sponsoring. A Legacy in Redbridge

Our roots stretch back more than 120 years, making us older than both the London Borough of Redbridge and the municipal borough of Ilford, which celebrates its centenary next year. Long-time residents may remember the names Edwards Son & Noice and Duthie, Hart & Duthie. These two respected local firms, founded in the early 20^th century, merged in 2000 to create Edwards Duthie, and in 2019 we joined with Shamash & Steele, a central London practice, to form the firm we are today. 

While our reach now extends across England and Wales, our heart remains firmly in Redbridge. With offices in Bank House opposite Valentine’s Park and on Wanstead High Street, we are a visible part of local life and proud to remain independent and growing at a time when many local law firms are struggling.

Serving the Community, Past and Present

We combine a strong private client practice – property, wills and probate, civil litigation, family and Court of Protection work – with a nationally recognised Legal Aid team in crime, mental health, housing and family. This dual strength means we are able to support all members of our community, wherever they find themselves in life. 

EDS is also one of the area’s significant employers, offering high-quality legal and support roles. Many of our colleagues have been with us for more than 20 years, and our average length of service is an extraordinary 12 years (well above the national average of just 4). We are proud of that loyalty and the sense of family it reflects.
