Civil Liberties and Prisoners’ Rights
Being detained in a prison can be a traumatic experience. Having to stay in prison beyond the date of your release even more so. This happened to a client of Edwards Duthie Shamash who was unlawfully detained for 19 days longer than he should have been. This occurred because of a failure of the Court and the Prison Service to correctly understand and record the sentence which was imposed by the Court.
Edwards Duthie Shamash were successful in obtaining damages on behalf of our client from the Ministry of Justice. It was accepted by the Ministry that this should not have occurred and that our client had been unlawfully detained.
We are able to assist in bringing claims against public authorities to secure compensation and a just outcome. We have experienced lawyers who are able to deal with these sort of situations.
This particular case was dealt with by Shaun Murphy at Edwards Duthie Shamash.
