Edwards Duthie Shamash successfully settled a potential claim on behalf of a client, Anna Begum, for defamation against the Daily Mail without having to issue Court proceedings.   We also secured a successful outcome to a complaint about the Daily Mail to the Press Complaints Commission.

Ms Begum’s photograph was published in the Daily Mail suggesting that she had been the victim of sexual harassment and inappropriate touching by a manager at the Olympic Delivery Authority.  In fact, Ms Begum has had no involvement with this individual, or the Olympic Delivery Authority at all.  Her photograph, which was published in the newspaper without her permission, was wrongly associated with the article.

The Press Complaints Commission have upheld her complaint, submitted by Edwards Duthie Shamash. The Daily Mail also agreed to publish an apology in their newspaper and pay Ms Begum compensation for the embarrassment that she has suffered, together with her legal costs.
