Gavin joined Edwards Duthie Shamash as a trainee in the year 2005 and was admitted as a solicitor in the year 2007. He was appointed a Salaried Partner in April 2011.
Gavin advises and represents clients on a wide range of family law issues including divorce, financial resolution (matrimonial and cohabitation), arrangements for children and domestic violence, as well as child care proceedings and adoption.
Experience & Areas of Expertise
In his financial resolution work, Gavin regularly advises clients regarding business assets, pension provisions and tax implications on the sale of matrimonial property, as well as advice and assistance on issues relating to the disposition of assets and spousal and child maintenance.
Gavin advises clients in the law as it relates to children. Gavin advises parents on disputes involving their children, including contact and residence disputes (arrangements for children), parental responsibility and removal of children from the jurisdiction.
Gavin advises clients in respect of domestic abuse and how to obtain emergency protection for clients and their children.
Gavin represents children, parents and family members in care proceedings and adoption proceedings.
Gavin is accredited by the law society as a member of the law society’s children panel and is therefore recognised for his experience and knowledge in dealing with matters relating to children. This means that he is recognised for his skill and expertise in this area of law. It also means that he is authorised to represent all parties in care proceedings.
Gavin is also accredited with Resolution. Resolution specialists are members who have submitted themselves to a rigorous assessment to demonstrate the highest levels of knowledge, practical application of the law and best practice.
