Edwards Duthie Shamash successful before the General Pharmaceutical Council
We recently successfully represented a Pharmacist before the Crown Court who was charged with serious sexual offences said to have occurred in the course of a consultation with a patient. This was strenuously denied by him. The Pharmacist was acquitted by the jury who returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty.
Notwithstanding his acquittal, the General Pharmaceutical Council sought to apply for conditions to be attached to his registration whilst they investigated, from a regulatory point of view, the circumstances surrounding the Crown Court case. This application was successfully resisted in a hearing before the Interim Orders Committee of the General Pharmaceutical Council who refused the application for the Pharmacist’s registration to be subject to any conditions or limitations.
This case was dealt with throughout by Shaun Murphy. He acted as the Solicitor and Advocate in the Crown Court proceedings, and also again, before the Interim Orders Committee.
Shaun Murphy has extensive experience in criminal litigation and also in representing medical professionals in regulatory proceedings.
