Japanese Knotweed is one of the most invasive plants in the UK. It spreads rapidly and can grow up to 10cm a day. It is extremely difficult to eradicate from land and can penetrate foundations, concrete hardstanding and walls, causing considerable damage. The Government has estimated that eradicating it from the UK would cost £2.6 billion.

It was to llford Town Hall that Shaun Murphy of solicitors Edwards Duthie Shamash headed to recently having been invited to meet Mayor of Redbridge Linda Huggett. Whilst there he was able to hand over a cheque from the company in support of the Mayor’s charity appeal, with funds raised going to Haven House and St Francis Hospice.

If you watched the news or picked up a paper recently, you’ll probably be aware of the case of Owens v Owens – a defended divorce case that’s gone all the way to trial and is so incredibly rare it has made headlines. Five justices of the Supreme Court heard legal argument and submissions in the case but we do not expect to receive the judgment for a number of weeks.

Edwards Duthie Shamash were recently successful in securing an acquittal in a very serious drugs trial conducted at Blackfriars Crown Court. The Defendant was charged with being concerned with the fraudulent importation of heroin and cocaine said to be in the region of approximately £25m.

Edwards Duthie Shamash celebrate a very special anniversary at Waterman’s Hall in London to mark the 50th Anniversary of Charles Newman joining the firm. Starting as a trainee on leaving university, Charles has been with Edwards Duthie Shamash throughout the entire half a century and went on to become a Senior Partner at the firm for some 20 years.
