Lasting Powers of Attorney

We are experts in Lasting Powers of Attorney

Have you ever thought about what might happen if you were no longer able to make decisions for yourself?  Completing a Lasting Power of Attorney can be a very sensible form of forward thinking by considering what might happen in the future to ensure that your best interests are always looked after.

By creating a Lasting Power of Attorney, you are giving someone the power to make decisions on your behalf if there comes a time when you are unable to do so or lack mental capacity.  By taking the organised steps now you can ensure that whatever happens in your future, there is someone you can trust that will be able to look after your affairs.

There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney. These are:

  • Health and Welfare – this type of Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone (your attorney) to make decisions about things such as your daily routine, your medical care and whether or not you should have life sustaining treatment.  This type of Lasting Power of Attorney can be used when you have been declared unable to make your own decisions.
  • Property and Financial Affairs – unlike the Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare, this kind of Lasting Power of Attorney can look after your affairs at any time throughout your life.  Your attorneys can help make decisions about things such as paying bills to selling your home.

Lasting Power of Attorney forms are complex documents, and our Team of dedicated lawyers are very familiar and used to completing these on behalf of our clients. Whether you already know which type of Lasting Power of Attorney you wish to have, or are unsure about any step in the process, our experienced Lasting Power of Attorney lawyers can help.  We undertake all the necessary steps including the assessment of mental capacity and the drafting of the documents – giving you complete peace of mind that the process has been handled by experts and everything has been taken care of. We also give guidance to your attorneys and assist them in the long-term management of assets, if necessary.
