Jo joined Edwards Duthie Shamash in December 2022 as Head of the Employment Team. Jo qualified as a solicitor in 2006 in civil litigation and employment and since 2011 has specialised in employment law. Jo’s practice covers a mixture of contentious and non-contentious matters for both employee and employer clients from a variety of sectors.
Areas of expertise include:
- Advising on disciplinary and grievance procedures including appeals
- Advising on discrimination, harassment and whistleblowing
- Interpreting and negotiating post termination restrictions
- Advising on the redundancy process
- Advising on challenges by the employer on performance or sickness absence
- Negotiating and advising on settlement agreements
- Advising and representing on employment tribunal for claims such as unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination or whistleblowing claims including early conciliation and judicial mediation
- Advising and drafting employment contracts, policies and procedures
- General HR support including sickness and performance management
- Advising on internal investigations
- Providing support with privacy and personal data in the workplace
- Advising on the termination of employment, including terminations involving senior executives
- Enforcing post termination restrictions against former employees and taking action against breaches of confidentiality to protect the business
- Representing against claims from employees/former employees in the employment tribunal or courts
- Advice on redundancy and business restructuring including TUPE
- In house training on HR policies and procedures and employment law
Jo is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association
